Copper, stainless steel, and ductile-iron supply lines — no PVC, no CPVC, no PEX, no plastic-leached drinking water.

This material screens clear across all seven independent toxicology authorities we use on every project.
Most modern homes use plastic plumbing — PVC, CPVC, or PEX. Each carries some concern: PVC and CPVC release residual vinyl chloride monomer and organotin stabilizers (especially when new); PEX leaches phthalates, antioxidants (BHT, IRGANOX), and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) into hot water exposure especially in the first months of service. Plastic-free alternatives are copper for supply, ductile iron or PVC-free cast iron for waste/drain/vent (DWV), and increasingly stainless steel for high-temp/high-pressure runs. EBH defaults to copper for cold-supply, type-L (heaviest-wall) for hot-supply, and cast iron for DWV — yes it's more expensive than plastic, but the drinking-water exposure and end-of-life recyclability case is compelling.

Severity scored 0–10 against the same 10 hazard endpoints we use for the chemical families on the avoid list. Every score is 1–2 — essentially no signal across every endpoint.

Plastic-Free Water Pipes is one of the materials we actually install. Every product that reaches an Earth Bound Homes jobsite is screened against seven independent toxicology databases first, so the healthy home we hand over is healthy in the walls, not just on the brochure.
If you are planning a new house or a deep remodel and you want this level of material control, that is the whole job we do. Earth Bound Homes builds in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, San Mateo County and across the San Francisco Bay Area.
