Triple Pane Passive House Windows
U-factor ≤ 0.14, warm-edge spacers, fiberglass or wood-clad frames — the energy-and-health workhorse of every Passive House.

Triple Pane Passive House Windows — a natural material we specify on every Earth Bound Homes project
Toxicity Screening — All Clear
This material screens clear across all seven independent toxicology authorities we use on every project.
Material Type
High-Performance Triple-Glazed Window Assembly
Material Description
Passive-House-grade windows combine three things you don't get in conventional windows: three lites of glass with two low-e coatings and argon or krypton fill (U-factor down to 0.10-0.14), warm-edge spacers that eliminate the cold-edge condensation seen in aluminum-spacer windows, and a thermally-broken frame in fiberglass, wood-clad, or PHI-certified aluminum-thermal-break. The result is a window that performs essentially as well as the surrounding wall — interior glass surface stays close to room temperature even at -10°F outside, eliminating cold drafts and condensation that drive mold. EBH avoids uPVC (vinyl) frames — that's an entire chemistry family on the Avoid list — and specifies fiberglass or wood-clad-aluminum frames.
Composition & Origin

Three glass lites + two low-e coatings + argon/krypton fill + warm-edge spacer + fiberglass or wood-clad frame · U-factor ≤ 0.14
Health Profile — All Endpoints Clear
Severity scored 0–10 against the same 10 hazard endpoints we use for the chemical families on the avoid list. Every score is 1–2 — essentially no signal across every endpoint.
Common Forms & Brands
- Alpen High Performance Series 525 / 725
- Zola European Hybrid
- Pinnacle PHC certified passive-house windows
- Common framing: fiberglass triple-pane, wood-clad triple-pane, thermally-broken aluminum (PHI-certified)
Why We Use It
- Interior glass surface stays warm — no condensation, no cold drafts
- Solar-heat-gain coefficient tunable per orientation
- Acoustic performance dramatically better than dual-pane
- No off-gassing — glass, metal, and fiberglass-resin frame (not uPVC)
- 30-50 year service life with proper installation
Where It Performs Best
- All exterior windows in new construction and deep retrofits
- Passive House and net-zero residential projects
- Curtain wall installations in cold climates
- Skylight units (where triple-glazed available)
