FSC Certified Dimensional Lumber
Framing-grade lumber with verified chain-of-custody from a sustainably managed forest.

FSC Certified Dimensional Lumber — a natural material we specify on every Earth Bound Homes project
Toxicity Screening — All Clear
This material screens clear across all seven independent toxicology authorities we use on every project.
Material Type
Certified-Sustainable Structural Lumber
Material Description
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification provides a third-party-audited chain of custody from harvest tract to mill to lumberyard, ensuring that every board you receive came from a forest managed for long-term ecological health — including biodiversity, indigenous-community rights, and soil/water protection. From a toxicology standpoint, FSC lumber is identical to non-certified lumber of the same species: zero added chemistry, just the wood. The difference is upstream — fewer clear-cuts, more selective harvesting, no old-growth deforestation, no illegal sources. EBH specifies FSC for all structural framing lumber, with chain-of-custody documentation retained on every project.
Composition & Origin

Sawn dimensional softwood lumber (Douglas fir, SPF, southern yellow pine) · FSC chain-of-custody certified · cellulose + lignin
Health Profile — All Endpoints Clear
Severity scored 0–10 against the same 10 hazard endpoints we use for the chemical families on the avoid list. Every score is 1–2 — essentially no signal across every endpoint.
Common Forms & Brands
- FSC Douglas fir 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, 2x12 framing
- FSC SPF (spruce-pine-fir) studs
- FSC southern yellow pine joist material
- Common framing: studs, joists, rafters, plates, beams
Why We Use It
- Verified sustainable forestry practices
- Chain-of-custody documents tract-to-mill provenance
- Carbon-storing structural material
- Repairable, recyclable end-of-life
- Identical structural performance to non-FSC equivalents
Where It Performs Best
- Stud-frame walls
- Floor and ceiling joists
- Roof rafters and trusses
- Top plates, bottom plates, sole plates
