Wool Carpet & Natural Fiber Textiles
Sheep's wool, sisal, jute, hemp, organic cotton — fibers that biodegrade and don't off-gas.

Wool Carpet & Natural Fiber Textiles — a natural material we specify on every Earth Bound Homes project
Toxicity Screening — All Clear
This material screens clear across all seven independent toxicology authorities we use on every project.
Material Type
Natural Fiber Floor & Soft Goods
Material Description
Natural fiber carpet and rugs — wool, sisal, jute, hemp, and organic cotton — replace synthetic-fiber (nylon, polyester, polypropylene) carpet that comes with PFAS stain treatments, latex SBR backing, and brominated flame retardants. Wool is the premium choice: naturally flame-resistant, naturally stain-resistant from its lanolin coating, dye-fast, soft underfoot, and 100% biodegradable. EBH specifies carpet with wool fiber, natural latex or jute backing, and zero stain-treatment chemistry. The same logic applies to drapery, upholstery, and bedding: natural fibers with mineral or vegetable dyes avoid the entire stack of flame-retardant, PFAS, and formaldehyde-resin treatments that synthetic fabrics carry.
Composition & Origin

Animal fiber (wool keratin), plant fiber (cellulose), or organic cotton — natural dyes only, no PFAS, no flame-retardant additive
Health Profile — All Endpoints Clear
Severity scored 0–10 against the same 10 hazard endpoints we use for the chemical families on the avoid list. Every score is 1–2 — essentially no signal across every endpoint.
